Track season begins

Despite having only three races under their collective belts this semester, the men’s and women’s track and field teams have gotten off to a bright start in 2015. Allanah Whitehall (Seattle, Wash.) put her mark on Puget Sound history in the first event of the year by grabbing a record in the indoor 60-meter dash. She broke the previous school record that she set at 8.14 seconds with a time of 7.79 seconds in the University of Washington indoor preview on Saturday Jan. 17. She went two-for-two at the University...

Blazer’s Damian Lilliard stays underrated

Continuing on the theme of sports teams here in the northwest, there has been a swarm of media attention around the National Basketball Association’s All-Star team selections. Damian Lillard of the Portland Trailblazers, former Rookie of the Year and two-time All-Star selection, is the focus of many arguments on the subject of who should be selected for the honor of being selected for one of the two All-Star teams. The NBA All-Star teams are selected by a group of coaches and community members who vote on the 12 players they...

Ultimate frisbee gains popularity

Ultimate Frisbee is a rapidly growing sport that combines elements of soccer, basketball and football and is represented by not one, but two teams here at Puget Sound. Ultimate Frisbee—commonly referred to as Ultimate—is a sport in which a Frisbee is moved around the field by passes thrown from player to player on a team. The object of Ultimate is to move the Frisbee starting from one end of the field to the end zone at the opposite end. A successful completion of a pass inside the end zone...

BASEBALL TEAM PREVIEW

After a long and eventful offseason, the Logger baseball team opens up another season starting at Pomona-Pitzer on Feb.6. Coming off their best record since 2011 (17-19 overall, 14-10 NWC) and winning 10 of their last 12 games last year, the team entered the offseason with high expectations and optimism for the next year.  However, in June an unexpected change came to the program, as former head coach Brian Billings resigned from his position.  Billings was replaced by Jeff Halstead, a Puget Sound alumni and the offensive coordinator for the...

SEAHAWKS LOSE IN DRAMATIC FASHION AS FANS GO INTO A STATE OF MOURNING

What a game. I still can’t believe what happened. Excitement, offense, defense and controversy. All of it was in this game. And it all led to a Seahawks loss, or in another perspective, a Patriots victory, as some University of Puget Sound student would proudly state. In the end, the Seahawks lost 28-24 to the Patriots due to a heart-stopping interception. The matchup was how it was supposed to be. It was supposed to be the Seahawks versus Patriots in the Super Bowl, and it has been since summer....
