Libertarian Party should take center stage in US politics: Party meets needs of much larger population than just those who identify as Libertarians

The United States has outgrown the basic Republican-Democrat model. According to Pew research, the Republican favorability is at a low 37 percent, and the Democrats are not that much higher at 46 percent. If neither party can get up to 50 percent, than why are these two parties so dominant? Statistics from the Pew Research Center show that the American people probably would prefer a libertarian solution. First, let’s clarify the main issues people believe in and then match them with libertarian ideas. The main issues will be abortion, gay...

Logger track is sprinting towards greatness

More than halfway into the season, the Puget Sound track and field women’s and men’s teams have been performing very well with many individuals placing in the top ten of their event. Many Loggers have achieved not only personal bests, but also Northwest Conference Championship qualifications. Although track and field includes many different events where individuals practice among their own groups, the team still remains a cohesive unit where they all grow and improve and make strong connections. Senior Alicia Burns (Spokane Valley, Wash.) is a strong example of how...

Portland Trailblazers’ performance promising, represents quality of Northwest sportsmanship

The Pacific Northwest has a rich but small history in sports. After the Seattle Supersonics left for Oklahoma City in 2008, Northwest sports fans had little in the way of quality basketball to support. The largest outlet for this thirst has been the Portland Trailblazers, and it looks as if folks in the Northwest will have much to cheer for as the Blazers boast a 17-3 record on the season so far and have spent the last week, after their 130-98 win against the Utah Jazz, at number...

Remarkable senior class prepares to leave

As the end of the semester approaches, many sports seasons are coming to a close. This is a bittersweet time for seniors who are playing their last games as Loggers. The fall teams have been having their last home games of the regular season in the last few weeks. These senior games are a chance to celebrate the commitment and success of the seniors. This year’s seniors are an accomplished group. More than 20 seniors were named NWC Scholar-Athletes last spring for maintaining a 3.5 GPA during their season....
