The Puget Sound men’s ultimate Frisbee team is gearing up for their spring season.  The team is made up of veteran and rookie players alike.  By the looks of it, it is highly probable that they will have a very successful year. With a team score of 320, the Loggers led the rest of the field by 10 strokes at the end of day one. The men’s soccer team underperformed this weekend as they faced two teams on the road. On Saturday, the Loggers played against the Willamette Bearcats for the second time this season. There, they once again proved their superiority with a 2-0 victory. Neither team was able to put up many shots, with the Bearcats attempting five to the Loggers’ six, but the Loggers capitalized more on their attempts over the Bearcats. The Puget Sound volleyball team kept their impressive winning streak alive this past weekend at home, defeating the Linfield Wildcats on Friday and the Willamette Bearcats on Saturday. Not only did the two wins extend the team’s streak to 10 straight, but both came with ease as the Loggers swept both matches three sets to none. The football team had a record -breaking weekend against Lewis and Clark, resulting in another heart breaking loss against the Pioneers. Junior Adam Kniffin (Salem, Ore) had a breakout game with a record-setting 19 catches and another record five touchdown receptions. This back and forth game also broke the record for total points in a game, with 132 points; total yards in a game, 650; and total passing yards in a game, in the 68-64 loss. The Varsity Women’s Soccer team improved to 13-1 Saturday Oct. 23. Their eighth consecutive win was earned with the Logger’s 1-0 victory over the Lewis and Clarke Pioneers. On Saturday, Oct. 9 the Lady Loggers defeated the Linfield Wildcats 3-1. What was a tied score for the majority of the match became a defeat for the Loggers in the final moments of the game. Despite an early Logger lead courtesy of senior Molly Winterrowd’s (Tigard, Ore.) goal in the 23rd minute, the Wildcats were able to tie the game up with a free kick in the 53rd minute. Monday and Tuesday of this week, the Lady Loggers golf team played in their season-opening tournament. The St. Martins Invitational was in Olympia, Washington and featured both NAIA teams as well as Division II and III schools. A large contributor to the success of the men’s soccer team’s so far this year is sophomore goal keeper Chris McDonald. He has made 33 saves and has only been scored on nine times during the 12 games this year. McDonald is from Newton, Massachusetts and has been playing soccer since he was five years old. The Homecoming Weekend festivities were spoiled on Saturday by the Linfield Wildcats. The Loggers suffered a 55-14 loss on the gridiron at the hands of the Wildcats, falling to 1-4 on the season and 1-2 in Northwest Conference play. Linfield posted an astonishing 591 total yards of offense, including 330 yards on the ground. The men’s soccer team traveled to Parkland, Washington on a rainy and wet Sunday Oct. 10 to play against the Pacific Lutheran Lutes.  This rivalry game ended up being the third loss this year for the men’s soccer team. In the first half, Logger offense was able to manufacture three shots.  None of these shots found the back of the net, leaving the Loggers in a defensive battle for much of the half. The women’s volleyball team improved to 7-1 in Northwest Conference play with their sweep of PLU and Pacific (Ore.) on Wednesday and Saturday nights, respectively.  They are off to their best start in conference play since 2001 and remain tied for first after this past week’s victories.
