Swim team blows conference competition out of the water

The Loggers came out strong again in their second week back after an impactful 2009 season. If their performances are indicative of what is to come this season, the Loggers are well on their way to qualifying for Nationals. The true test for the Logger swimmers will be maintaining high work ethic and building confidence, not cockiness, in preparation for higher-stakes competition later in the season. The Logger swim teams cleaned house this weekend against the Willamette Bearcats on Friday and the Linfield Wildcats on Saturday. On Friday, final team...

Pacquiao vs. Margarito: The PacMan takes the title in a David-and-Goliath-esque showdown

It was a classic battle of David versus Goliath. On Nov. 13, 2010, Manny “The PacMan” Pacquiao faced Antonio Margarito in the Cowboys Stadium for the WBC super welterweight belt. Margarito’s physical advantage was apparent as the boxers posed for the traditional pre-fight stare-down. Towering an extra 5 inches over Pacquiao and weighing in at 150 lbs, almost 6 lbs more than the PacMan, Margarito was characteristically cocky. The PacMan looked calm and collected despite his apparent physical disadvantages. He had confidence in his speed, ambidexterity and stamina. In a pre-fight...

Soccer hopes for bid

The men’s soccer team underperformed this weekend as they faced two teams on the road. On Saturday, the Loggers played against the Willamette Bearcats for the second time this season. There, they once again proved their superiority with a 2-0 victory. Neither team was able to put up many shots, with the Bearcats attempting five to the Loggers’ six, but the Loggers capitalized more on their attempts over the Bearcats. The Willamette men were simply unable to shoot the ball past sophomore Chris McDonald (Newton, Mass.) at the goal. McDonald...

Women’s soccer exerts dominance

On Saturday, Oct. 9 the Lady Loggers defeated the Linfield Wildcats 3-1. What was a tied score for the majority of the match became a defeat for the Loggers in the final moments of the game. Despite an early Logger lead courtesy of senior Molly Winterrowd’s (Tigard, Ore.) goal in the 23rd minute, the Wildcats were able to tie the game up with a free kick in the 53rd minute. Serious determination and grappling were seen on the field as both teams gave it their all. The Loggers’ breakthrough goal...

Volleyball firing on all cylinders, hard work paying off with conference wins

The Lady Loggers were on the road yet again this weekend playing George Fox on Friday and Lewis and Clark on Saturday. The Loggers were able to defeat both teams, but the ends were reached with different means. On Friday night, the Loggers beat the George Fox Bruins 3-1, with set scores of 12-25, 25-20, 25-22, and 25-15. The beginning of the weekend’s journey was rough. Team morals were low when the Bruins strung together points at the start of the match. The Loggers came back stronger in the second...

Volleyball hits stride on trip to Oregon

The Logger women’s volleyball team played at Linfield College this Friday. They defeated the Linfield Wildcats 3-0, with scores of 25-23 in the first match, 25-12 in the second, and 25-20 in the third. As a former volleyball player and new assistant coach this year, Leigh Sumida offered her insight into the games. “Even though we swept the Wildcats 3-0, I think we did not meet our potential. We have much more room to grow.” Doing everything in their power to avoid losing on their home court, the Wildcats put...
