Shipley sets Puget Sound record during UW Invitational

Senior Tyler Shipley (Forest Grove, Oregon) ran at the University of Washington Invitational on Jan. 29 and set a University record of 14:28 in the 5000 meter race. Shipley surpassed the former Puget Sound record by a little more than 14 seconds, set by Francis Reynolds in 2009. Shipley placed fifth overall in the race that included many runners from Division I schools such as Seattle University, Boise State, Washington State and Gonzaga University. When the Logger women’s soccer team takes the field next fall in pursuit of a 15th straight Northwest Conference title, there will be a new head coach patrolling the sidelines for the first time since 1995. There is always something going on with Puget Sound Outdoors (PSO) on and off campus. November tends to be PSO’s time to wind down because it becomes harder to take out trips due to weather conditions. Football  Logger football will have a winning record for the season after grabbing its first victory since 1979 against Pacific Lutheran at Baker Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 31, winning the gritty game 6-2. FOOTBALL Logger football earned a win at home against the George Fox Bruins, winning 43-35. Senior Kevin Miller (Seattle, Washington) had 18 receptions and completed an incredible 187 receiving yards. Senior Peter Bell (Klamath Falls, Oregon) also finished the game with a career-best 158 receiving yards and nine receptions. Volleyball Volleyball split their two games this weekend, winning at Linfield College on Sept. 25 in five sets but losing at Willamette in three sets the next day. Against Linfield, the team was led by senior Heather Sangster (Los Altos, California) with 13 kills and sophomore Katie Rice (Glendora, California) with 11 kills and two aces.
