The University of Puget Sound does not merely play host to varsity athletics. Its fields are also home to a variety of club teams such as rugby, men’s lacrosse, Ultimate Frisbee and soccer. The athletes that make up these teams are just as talented and skilled in their sport as the varsity athletes on this campus, if not, dare it be said, better. This past weekend, April 6-7, both the men’s and women’s Puget Sound golf teams competed in the Northwest Spring Classic at the Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Washington. On the women’s side, freshman Halle Peterson (Boulder, Colo.) led the Loggers after round one with a score of 90 (par +18), which put her in 21st place along with a competitor from Pacific Lutheran University. It was a busy day for the Puget Sound men’s and women’s crew teams this past Saturday, April 6 as both teams participated in the NCRC Invitational at Vancouver Lake. Overall, both Logger men’s and women’s teams had strong racing days at the NCRC Invitational, winning six total races out of a possible 16. The Loggers Softball squad was unable to capture its first victory of the season as they lost all six contests during spring break. Puget Sound had a rough outing against Corban in both halves of its double-header on Wednesday, March 27. The Loggers managed to score just one run on eight hits in the two games combined, losing 8-0 and 11-1, respectively. While the rest of the campus enjoyed a week-long break, the Loggers men’s baseball team stayed hard at work during spring break, playing seven games. The Puget Sound women’s tennis team has had an impressive eight-game winning streak during this last half of their season. This streak was easily seen during the Loggers’ time in Orlando, Fla. during spring break when they faced off against Calvin, Colorado College, Lawrence and Hollis. The Puget Sound men’s golf team had a great weekend of golf with a large group of supporters for their multiple invitationals. On Thursday and Friday, March 7-8, the Loggers hosted the Logger Invitational tournament in Fircrest, where they played against St. Martin’s and Trinity Lutheran in two rounds.
