When the Logger women’s soccer team takes the field next fall in pursuit of a 15th straight Northwest Conference title, there will be a new head coach patrolling the sidelines for the first time since 1995. After 20 years of coaching the University of Puget Sound women’s soccer team, head coach Randy Hanson announced his retirement in January.  Hanson’s career at Puget Sound was historic to say the least.  The longtime head coach will finish with a career record of 303-74-36 including a 16-10-6 record in postseason play.  Of the...

Loud, proud and obnoxious: The 12th man on campus

Three years ago, Seahwaks coach Pete Carroll made the daring decision to start rookie Russell Wilson over popular free agent Matt Flynn. Seahawks fans, popularly known as the 12th man, had no clue about the roller coaster ride they were about to experience. At the same time in August of 2012, members of the Puget Sound class of 2016 said tough goodbyes to their friends and families as they left their childhood homes for the first time to embark on the college experience. Can there be too much “Fandom”? Unabridged version

As the Seattle Seahawks lined up on the 1 yard line with 26 seconds left in the Super Bowl a suffocating silence overcame my living room.  I was squatting down biting my blue and green beanie with nervousness; others were clasping sweaty palms together with eyes fixed on the TV, waiting to see what drama would unfold.  As Russell Wilson’s ill-fated pass fell into the hands of Patriots cornerback Malcom Butler it felt as if a gunshot went off.  The people in the room rooting against the Seahawks exploded with...

BASEBALL TEAM PREVIEW

After a long and eventful offseason, the Logger baseball team opens up another season starting at Pomona-Pitzer on Feb.6. Coming off their best record since 2011 (17-19 overall, 14-10 NWC) and winning 10 of their last 12 games last year, the team entered the offseason with high expectations and optimism for the next year.  However, in June an unexpected change came to the program, as former head coach Brian Billings resigned from his position.  Billings was replaced by Jeff Halstead, a Puget Sound alumni and the offensive coordinator for the...
