Klein talks cross-country and more

Senior Matt Klein (Portland, Ore.) is a prominent student athlete on campus. When he is not busy running for the cross-country team, he is working hard on his exercise science major and applying to physical therapy schools. I was fortunate enough to sit down with Klein and ask him about the race this past weekend, how the team is doing this year and a little about his personal experiences being the top runner at Puget Sound. Ben Kastenbaum: So tell me about the race this past weekend. Matt Klein: As...

Volleyball suffers first loss

The Logger volleyball team has been playing strong this season, having held a record of 5-0 in conference play. However, as the Loggers took to the road this past weekend, it marked a time of highs and lows for Logger volleyball this fall. The Logger volleyball team suffered their first Northwest Conference loss of the season on Friday Sept. 28 in a five set match against Willamette. The Willamette Bearcats (3-9, 1-4 NWC) overcame a two sets to none deficit to upset the Logger winning streak to win their first...

Logger football falls short in hard fought battle against Whittier College

Now, as a longtime football fan and a University of Puget Sound student, logic would tell us that I would have been to a Puget Sound football game by now. While this was the case before Saturday’s game, it is no longer true that I have isolated myself from the excitement that is Logger football. My previous discernments with going to Puget Sound football games were washed away within seconds of walking into the stadium. One can begin to feel the electricity in the atmosphere by just taking a few...

Men’s soccer hit the road this past weekend with a winning streak of five games under their belts. Away from Baker Stadium, there was added pressure to continue with their excellent performance on the field. They did not disappoint. The No. 24 Loggers remain perfect in Northwest Conference play (7-1-1, 4-0 NWC) and have run their winning streak to seven: a fantastic feat for a talented group of players. With...

Logger Spotlight, Sept. edition: Landon Gauthier shines brightly

Every month, The Trail will look at the best of the Puget Sound sports world, and name one athlete who excels both on and off the field in “Logger Spotlight.” This September, that honor goes to junior forward for the Loggers men’s soccer team: Landon Gauthier (Fox Island, Wash.) After starting the season a bit slowly with a tie followed by a loss, men’s soccer has been on fire ever since, winning their last seven games in a row, including four straight in conference play. In addition, the team began the season with a 4-0 win streak that included victories over nationally ranked teams. The Loggers achieved a ranking of No. 11 in the American...

Logger Ladies Tie PLU

This past week on Sept. 13, the Puget Sound women’s soccer team had a dramatic and surprising game against local rivals, Pacific Lutheran University. The sun was bright and the fans in the stands were ecstatic as the game began.
