Protests presage a decline in the market value of teaching

Egypt removed an egocentric dictator from thirty years of reign, and yet here in the US we cannot get a single politician to choose education over his Republican beliefs. Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker’s responses have been nothing but dismissive of the protesters’ wants. As he represents the voice of the people, this is unacceptable. The Wisconsin protests revolve around Governor Walker’s push to cut benefits for state workers, which includes teachers. His cuts would essentially eliminate the effectiveness of unions. The only power that would remain is effectively described in...

Sexual health services cuts threaten students

On Feb. 18, the U.S. House of Representatives passed an amendment to ban Planned Parenthood from receiving any federal funding, with a vote of 240 to 185. This amendment, which Planned Parenthood CEO Judy Tablar has called “an extreme and dangerous piece of legislation,” will likely have devastating consequences for our society if it passes in the Senate as well. The bill, proposed by Rep. Mike Pence (R-IN), targets Planned Parenthood specifically because it is known as the go-to institution for abortions and contraceptives. Female listeners not deterred by rap’s crudity

There are some things I will never understand about women. Why do you go to the bathroom in groups? Why do you ask for my opinion if you don’t have any plans on taking it in to consideration? Why do you listen to and enjoy rap music? The last question is the most perplexing to me. I enjoy an awkward conversation at the urinal and at least you want me to feel included, but rap music, seriously? Last year I was on a date with my girlfriend. It was a...

Off-campus housing remains best option

The question in everyone’s mind recently has been “where the hell am I going to live next year?” A few students offered a little guidance on the matter. The three major options are living on campus in a dorm, on campus in a house, or braving the not-so-dangerous waters to live off campus. The most classic college living experience-meaning the one most often portrayed in movies- is the dorm room. Chancy for the first year (there’s no saying who you might be living with!) by the time the second year...
